Thanks to Jude, we have a work around!

Jude discovered that you can get to the forums, using the "Jump to...." box (which isn't on every screen, of course).
What a pain in the ass. But it's better than nothing.
You could also just bookmark the forum once you're there.
God, I hate technology.
