History
Alcibiades runs the Academy of Wizardy in Silverymoon, in the Silver Marches area of Faerun.
Recently, Alcibiades was attending a local festival. As he walked through the crowd with his good friend Linnea, he paused to watch a mage duel. Once the contest was completed, Alcibiades was persuaded to participate in another mage duel to keep the crowd entertained. Entering the arena, he was given a few seconds to prepare his defensive spells and then the contest would commence. He decided to cast Fly, Greater Invisibility, and See Invisible on himself.
Ready to begin the challenge, all present were stunned by a powerful explosion, which Alcibiades suspected was of an extra-planar origin. The power of the explosion itself formed into shadowy orcs which attacked the crowd. Dazed by the explosion, which destroyed the dueling sphere, it took Alcibiades a few seconds to regain his senses. When he did, the Knights of Silver and others in the crowd, led by the amazing bard Storm Silverhand, were battling the shadow creatures.
As the fight began, the more experienced combatants noticed the beginning of some sort of planar rift. The rift grew bigger, and through this hellish portal two powerful creatures charged. One flew off on a fiendish task, even Alcibiades's powerful magic not affecting the foul being. The other was engaged in battle. The combined talents of Alcibiades and Linnea, joined by Commander (a mighty fighter) and Baba (a powerful barbarian), managed to kill the evil-doer. But the cost was great--both Commander and Baba were decapitated by the fiend--it was finally dispatched by Linnea after Alcibiades cast Mordenkainen's Disjuntion to remove many of the creature's most powerful defenses. Storm Silverhand had also been killed. Worse, the other fiend had flown to the palace and killed High Lady Alustriel.
The battle over, the survivors realized that the cost was almost unbelievable. How they go about repairing the damage, if that is even possible, remains to be seen....
